General Conference
What an awesome opportunity it is to literally 'listen to a prophet's voice' every six months. All the talks were so wonderful. I thought the talk Elder Oaks gave at the beginning was so important to open the conference. It seemed to me that he hit on every point of trial and tribulation, and expressed such hope and faith for all of us in a world that is so unpredictable.
I don't know if you New Yorkers saw the program about the Young Women from the Bronx and Manhattan who went to EFY in the summer of 2003, but it was awesome. 26 young women from all different walks of life got on a plane and flew to Provo, Utah to experience a total differnet life from the one that they lead. They were walking down the streets of Salt Lake and were amazed at how CLEAN the streets were! They also made fun (all in good fun) of the 'train' system Utah has compared to the Subway and elevated trains in NY. It was so neat to see these girls mix and mingle with Utah and California girls whose lives have been so different. One of the girls from Utah expressed how much respect she had for the Young Women in NY, who most the time have joined the church on their own, and go to church on their own also. What a miracle the gospel is! They showed a clip of all these young women linking arms and singing "As Sister's in Zion"... and of course I was a crying mess, full of emotion. I sure hope that all the Young Women in my mission are staying true to the faith! Go to this link to see conference!
